We Are Called To Be Set Apart

We are not to reflect the world, but reflect Christ.

“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” ―BrennanManning

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:1-2 ESV

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9 ESV

"I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world." John 17:15-18 ESV

We are called to be different. We are called to love differently, forgive differently, walk differently, think differently, pray differently, worship differently, live differently, and to die differently. We are not of this world if we are in Christ. We are set apart. We are grafted into God’s chosen people. We are not to reflect the world, but reflect Christ.

Christian comes from the Romans calling those following The Way “little Christs.” We are to be like Jesus in as much as we can. We are weak and incredible fallible. However, we don’t have to live in those sins and failures. God gave us the ultimate “Get Out of Jail Free” card. Our sins made the nails necessary. His love made them stick. If we accept Jesus as the Son of God, accept His sacrifice as the payment for our sins, and truly submit to Him as Lord, then we should outwardly and openly reflect that in our words, deeds, thoughts, and practices.

I pose this question regularly…

If you are a Christian, but no one knows it…Are you?
